Is there internet radio for Bitcoin and Nostr music?
Honest answer: barely. There is a small, real scene of community stations, and a lot of open ground. Here's the map as it stands, and what we're building on that open ground.
Noderunners Radio is a community Bitcoin station with a Lightning jukebox, where listeners pay sats to queue tracks.[1]
NoGood Radio is a 24/7 Nostr-integrated station playing lofi, synthwave and electronica on the value-for-value model.[2]
Adjacent: Wavlake's open-source Wavman player gives Nostr music a lean-back listening surface, though it's a player rather than a programmed station.[3]
What the scene doesn't have yet is what terrestrial radio always was: an always-on, programmed station with rotation, dayparts, and a voice between songs, built over a catalog anyone can join.
Lightning FM is building exactly that station: always-on programmed radio over the open kind 31337 catalog, with real rotation and dayparting, generative programming, and station idents and voice breaks between tracks. Because it programs from the open catalog, every artist who publishes is eligible for rotation, and every song on air links back to a storefront where 100% of a purchase settles to the artist's wallet.
It is not live yet, and this page will say so until it is. We don't present things as shipped before they ship. In the meantime, every artist's catalog streams free from their storefront page.
Can I listen to Lightning FM's station today?
Not yet. The station is in development, and we won't call it live until it is. What you can do today: stream any artist's catalog free from their storefront page, no account needed.
How will artists get on the station's rotation?
By being in the catalog. The station is being built to program directly from the open kind 31337 catalog: publish your tracks, and rotation is a programming decision, not a gatekeeping one.
Does radio play pay artists?
Radio's job is discovery, not micropayments. On Lightning FM, streaming is free and purchases are the payment event, where 100% of a sale settles to the artist's own wallet. A station that drives listeners to artists they'll actually buy from pays better than fractions of a cent per spin.
Are there other Bitcoin radio stations right now?
A small, genuine scene exists: community stations like Noderunners Radio (with its Lightning jukebox) and NoGood Radio (24/7 Nostr-integrated lofi and electronica, value-for-value). It's early, which is exactly why an always-on station over an open catalog is worth building.
