Commitments

Our commitments to artists.

Promises are cheap on platforms, because policies change with owners. So these are written to be checkable: each one names what we do, what we don't, and where the architecture makes the promise structural rather than polite.

IN WRITING
1Your content is yours: We never claim ownership of your music, artwork, or profile. No exclusive license, ever. Your catalog is Nostr events signed by your key; we can't alter it and we can't keep it.
2No AI training on your audio: We do not train models on artists' audio, and we do not license or sell it for training. Our site's text pages are deliberately open to AI crawlers so agents can find and quote the catalog; that openness is about discovering pages, never a grant to train on audio. Honest scope: your files are openly fetchable by hash, so this is a commitment about what we do and permit, not a claim that we can technically prevent others.
3Leaving costs you nothing: Catalog, name, and payment setup all survive the move. Your key doesn't change, so your followers, your catalog signatures, and your payment setup come with you. What leaving actually costs →
4We host conveniences; your key holds the rights: What we run: file hosting, a relay, the name directory. What your key controls: the catalog, the money, your identity. Anything we run can be replaced without your permission changing hands.
50% of your sales, structurally: Payment settles from the buyer's wallet to yours and never passes through us, so there is no point in the flow where a cut could be taken. Not a policy that could change with an owner. Every platform's cut, cited →

These are plain-English commitments, not a formal Terms of Service. A lawyered ToS is future work, and it will not weaken anything on this page. Questions? hello@lightning.fm
